Simplicity

Here are some recent shots I took of my baby girl at 6 months. I'm not going to say too much about these, other than that I love simplicity in photography. And what could be more simple and perfect than a baby's wonder and delight in discovering the world around her?

Cari at 5 months

Yes, it's true. I am still utterly besotted with our little girl and can't stop taking pictures of her. Here she is at 5 months having a giggle and playing with her feet:

Choosing your family photographer

Three months ago, I became a mummy. It is without doubt the best thing ever. Everyone says "the time goes so quickly" and they are so right.  I want to savour every moment so I photograph my little one regularly. And it has given me a new insight into the importance of capturing those childhood days. It also made me think about how parents choose a family photographer. Understandably, given the financial pressure on new parents, the decision often comes down to price. But should that really be the only consideration?

Every photographer has a different set of eyes, which is why no two photographers will ever take the exact same photo. So it's really important when you are choosing who is going to photograph your children, who is going to provide you with images that you will look at for years to come, that you choose the right person for such an important job.

Here are some considerations, other than price, that you might want to bear in mind:

1. Style
Every photographer has a different style. Have a think about what kind of style you would like your family pictures to have. Do you like very posed pictures, or something more natural and candid?

2. Location
Do you like the look of slick studio photos with a plain white or black background or would you prefer to be in your own home or outside in a location that has a special connection for you?

3. Clicking
How well do you 'click' with photographer? Did you feel immediately at home and comfortable? Does the photographer engage well with your children? If not, this lack of connection will show in the final images, no matter how perfectly technical the photographs are.

4. Advice
Will you have the chance to speak with the photographer prior to the photo session to explain what you would like to get from the session and what is important to you? Will the photographer be able to advise you on clothing, timing and location?

5. The End Result
What will you actually get for the fee you pay? Some photographers charge only a small session fee, and then can only recoup the true cost of their skill and time by selling products (such as framed prints and canvasses) at an inflated price. If the photographer offers products, how are those priced? Are any included in the session fee? Will you be given high resolution images suitable for printing? Are their any extras (e.g. will you have to pay extra for digital images).

Of course, if you're in Munich and looking for a portrait photographer, then you need look no further! Click here to see my portfolio and find out more about the service I can offer.
