Every family’s situation is different. As mums, we all try to make the best decisions for our family. Sometimes those decisions can be hard. We might question ourselves, wondering if we have got it right. For this mum, she made a super hard decision: to continue her PhD studies in Munich while her husband and extended family look after her daughter back in their home country. Her family, especially her own mother are super supportive of her decision which I think is just wonderful. She wants to show her daughter that she CAN live her dreams, achieve her goals. It is hard not seeing her daughter every day. But they make it work. So the next time her daughter and husband visited, she wanted to make sure she captured how special these times are that they have together, for her daughter to have now, and for her to reflect on later. And that was how I came to photograph a morning of their time together.
I was blown away by the bond these two have. For religious reasons, I can’t show you the pictures of mum without her headscarf, but I think it is clear from her daughter’s expressions what a close, loving relationship these two have, despite the miles between them during this time of living apart. This 4 year old is one seriously happy, fun-loving girl. I can’t wait to meet them again, keep in touch and witness the amazing young woman she will grow into, following the footsteps of her mother and grandmother.
